● Our Story
Weekly Tradition Turned Nonprofit
Imagine what it would be like if the world you knew disappeared the moment you turned 22.
For many young adults with disabilities and their caregivers, this is exactly what happens. At age 22, they age out of the school system and their friendships, routines, and support networks they’ve relied on for years suddenly disappear. Their families are left to navigate a confusing maze of services alone. And too often, both the young adult and their family find themselves isolated at the exact moment they need community the most.
The idea for Carpenter’s Village was born from that reality — and from a simple weekly tradition that grew into something extraordinary.
About two years ago, every Thursday night, a special group of friends (and their parents!) started gathering at a local pizza place for music bingo. What started with one invitation became a crowd. Then a community. Then a lifeline. Cookouts, homestead gatherings, and shared celebrations followed. And we saw firsthand how powerful it is when people feel included, supported, and surrounded by friends who understand them and love them for exactly who they are.
Now, we’re building Carpenter’s Village to support that community for years to come.
Carpenter’s Village is a newly registered nonprofit dedicated to creating supported independence, meaningful relationships, and year‑round community for adults with disabilities and their caregivers. Our mission is simple: empower individuals and enrich their lives through community, connection, and supported independence.
Some of our goals include:
Weekly social gatherings and community events
Caregiver support networks including respite resources and educational workshops
Transportation assistance so no one is left out
Partnerships with local organizations to expand access to services
A long-term vision for housing and supported‑living that give families long‑term peace of mind
Carpenter’s Village is more than a nonprofit. It’s a promise — that no one should be alone in adulthood, that caregivers can support each other, and that every person, each to their own ability, deserves friendship, purpose, and a place to belong.
If you believe in community for everyone, then we invite you to help us build this village.
